Midweek with Max: Kicking Off 2026 with Community, Momentum, and What’s Next

The first Midweek with Max of 2026 opened on a celebratory note, welcoming the community back after the holidays and setting the tone for what promises to be a busy year ahead. With a lighter, festive atmosphere, the conversation blended reflections on recent progress with a forward look at near-term milestones across the Hemi ecosystem. 

Max shared that several upgrades are moving through final testing, including updates tied to MinerFi infrastructure, node operations, and upcoming network changes. While timelines remain intentionally flexible, the focus remains on improving usability, performance, and long-term resilience as the network evolves. 

A key highlight of the episode was confirmation that VBK claim registration is opening imminently, with distributions planned to roll out in batches shortly thereafter. Eligible participants are encouraged to register early to be included in the first round. Additional updates touched on staking rewards, contest payouts, and timing expectations for several community-facing programs slated for early January. 

Moving ahead, Hemi is leaning into liquid, onchain incentives that provide immediate and transparent feedback for participation. This approach, paired with Merkle-based distributions, is designed to reward activity more directly while maintaining flexibility for future experiments such as ambassador programs and targeted initiatives. 

Community questions covered a wide range of topics, including contributor opportunities, audits, and security practices. The team reaffirmed its commitment to layered security reviews, external audits where appropriate, and expanding bug bounty participation. Builders were encouraged to reach out directly, with plans underway to formalize grants and bounties around specific ecosystem needs in the coming weeks.

Max also outlined the broader goals for 2026, highlighting hBitVM as a major technical milestone later in the year, alongside continued decentralization efforts and improvements to Bitcoin onboarding and usability. While details will continue to be shared incrementally, the overarching message was clear: 2026 is about turning foundational work into tangible user and ecosystem wins.
