This week's Midweek with Max opened on a note of transparency and resolution. A liveness incident on mainnet the previous day was identified, patched, and fully resolved by the time the session began. The root cause was a bug in an hVM precompile that turned out to have an exploitable L1-to-L2 force inclusion path not accounted for in the original impact model. The patch was rolled out swiftly, the network recovered cleanly, no funds were at risk, and there was no reorg. A full postmortem with technical details and process improvements is available on the Hemi blog.
On engineering updates, the op-reth migration continues with final testing and fuzzing underway. MinerFi is also moving along, with public testing targeted for the coming weeks. Join the Beta Testers channel in Discord to be among the first to participate. The Zero Knowledge (ZK) proving marketplace is similarly targeting a testnet beta for the community in the near future.
The HEMI token's broader utility got a thorough airing this week. Near-term, governance is the focus, and a platform integration is nearly complete to accomplish this, with early signals visible in recent GitHub commits for any scrutinizing eyes. Longer term, veHEMI restaking becomes the economic security engine powering MinerFi, hBitVM, and the ZK proving marketplace. A HEMI Improvement Proposal outlining the four-phase economic model is available for community review.
The next veHEMI rewards distribution is approximately two weeks out following the recent contract upgrade, with a new rewards contract also unlocking retroactive claims for holders who exited positions mid-cycle. Future testnet activity will be more targeted than the original points program, with specific tasks found in the Beta Testers channel, and bounties tied to participation as well as bug discovery.
Also in development: an onchain CTF competition built around smart contract exploits, insecure randomness, and HVM precompile challenges, with ZK proof submissions handling flag verification entirely onchain.
